Getting Ready for Goodwood Festival of Speed ‘19

As the summer rolls in, here at Milltek Sport that only means one thing… Goodwood’s Festival of Speed is right around the corner! We are looking forward to seeing some of the old and new attractions whilst introducing some of our very own new product developments.

Once again, Milltek Sport are going to be exhibiting at one of the country’s most popular and well-known motoring events. We are thrilled to be returning to this grand event and be able to share the exciting developments we have made here at Milltek Sport, including an exclusive sneak peak of a brand-new system on a vehicle that 300 people in the UK will be lucky enough to own later in the year.

Goodwood’s annual “Festival of Speed” originally began back in 1993, with the aim of having the historical venue come alive with motorsport once again. Now, it is one of the country’s biggest events for motor-enthusiasts, coming together and sharing the same passion for automotive performance.

The FOS is well-known for its show of diverse vehicles, displaying the pinnacle of automotive performance throughout history. Presenting a variety of vehicles that vary from racing trucks to drift cars to formula one cars.

Goodwood FOS 2018 became the perfect opportunity to unveil the addition of the now fabled Milltek-motor, the Audi B9 RS4. The car turned heads for its sleek yet simple aesthetic look, and it certainly turned ‘ears’ for its thundering sound. It may not have a V8 but had plenty to compensate. While we were also displaying V1 of our Active Sound Module alongside our Tesla Model X.

Goodwood FOS 2019 is shaping up to be one of the biggest FOS events ever! With all-new attractions that help in showcasing all areas of motorsport alongside of returning festival favourites. Returning in 2019 bigger… bolder… better… and so are we.

This year we will be introducing the Milltek fleet vehicle, Mercedes AMG A35, that has gone through three rounds of development cycles, and now has a huge array of options available for our customers, including; Valved & Non-Valved systems, Resonated & Non-Resonated systems and GPF-Back & Cat-Back with GPF Delete systems.

There will also be the already incredibly popular Version 2 of the Active Sound Control (ASC) module. This allows you to manipulate and replicate a hyper-realistic sound that imitates that of a petrol-engine, being able to adjust the variable pitch, tone and volume of the exhaust sound to match your own preferences. Version 2 includes the much-desired pop & crackle effect that most performance exhaust owners are searching for!

The Milltek Sport stand will be featuring a demonstration display, so you won’t have to take our word for it, you will be able to come and experience the new functionality Version 2 offers, and the power of ASC.

But by far, the thing we are most excited to share with you is the vehicle we will have on stand straight from factory which is shaping up to be one of the loudest and meanest systems we have ever developed. This V6 machine delivers 340 hp from its 3.0 litre turbocharged engine, and with our newly developed exhaust ready to be installed, it is definitely going to make some noise.

We will have a team available on the stand to talk you through any development or product enquires, alongside our brand ambassador, Tom Onslow-Cole who is joining us for the event for the second year.

We are excited to be sharing some more exciting developments we have made here at Milltek Sport and are thrilled to be returning to this event once again. We’re looking forward to meeting all those that are attending, seeing some of the new exhibitions, and welcoming back the unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else other than the FOS.

Milltek Sport ADAC N24

We returned to HQ today with all the emotions after finishing 4th in class at the ADAC TOTAL 24-Hour Race at the Nürburgring. It was a miracle we made it the chequered flag after being hit twice by GT3 BMW’s, but thankfully our drivers, determined to finish, were able to get the car back to the pits both times, and our crew pulled out all the stops to make sure we got the GT86 back out on track and over the finish line.

After qualifying third on Friday, Moritz Gusenbauer jumped in the driver seat for the first leg of the endurance race and managed to fight through the various classes to start leading our class by the 10th lap and setting our fastest lap of the race at an impressive 10:11.273.

At 5:30pm, Dominic Tranchet took on his first stint at the event and put in some of his fastest ever Nordschleife lap times with a relatively comfortable drive up until his 9th lap at around 7pm when he was shunted from behind by a BMW GT3, where he spun and hit the barrier with his rear and front before recovering and dragging the GT86 back to the pits for a major repair session.

As soon as we received the news that Tranchet was headed to the pit lane, the tape was out and repair patches were being formed, but as the car arrived we realised we had underestimated the damage and had to completely remove the spoiler, change one of the wheels, and replace all 4 tyres.

After a 7 minute pit stop the GT86 was released again with Werner Gusenbauer behind the wheel, who managed to complete his 2 hour stint unscathed although struggling slightly with the damaged GT86 now being unaligned and in need of a brake change. He pitted just after 9pm for a 13 minute stop while some more work was carried out before Chris Chadwick jumped in the car.

Chris had barely made it out of the pit lane when he experienced an unexplained power failure but managed to complete a GP lap before returning to the pits for a reset, which was done in under 2 minutes and he and was back out again. This time really struggling with understeer on some corners and over on the other. He managed 11 laps between 9:40pm and midnight before coming in and handing over the reign back to Tranchet.

Tranchet started his second stint of the Nordschleife with a comfortable 5 laps under his belt before disaster struck. With the pit crew taking a well-deserved break at 1am, we received the unexpected call that Dominic was in the pit lane, unsure of what had happened we rushed to receive him and bought the car into the box. He had suffered a serious steering wheel failure due to some damage going unnoticed from the previous incident. The brackets supporting the steering column in place, broke, setting off the windscreen wipers and fluid washers before dropping completely into the drivers’ lap.

Dominic came out of the car shaken, while chief mechanic Alex Harris jumped in (upside down) to look at the problem. Knowing it would take some time to resolve, the rest of the pit crew took the opportunity to change the brake pads and discs and readjust the camber and tow. Harris spent just under 30 minutes upside down but was able to resolve the problem and confidently send the car out once again with Moritz taking on his second stint.

Moritz had a relatively unexciting stint, before radioing that the steering was getting worse and headed into the pits at lap 60 where it took 5 minutes to make the steering adjustments before it was time for Werner to take his second stint.

With Werner out and happy with the car, we were confident that all issues from the GT3 incident had been handled. However, when Werner came into the pits at 05:30am we saw new damage on the passenger side of the car that had resulted from another hit from a different GT3 BMW. Without any damage other than to the bodywork, Chris Chadwick jumped back in determined to improve on his previous lap records now that the steering had been aligned.

After an hour, we received radio from Chris that there was loud rattling coming from the engine and Harris headed out to the pit wall to have a listen. By the time he had come back reporting he couldn’t hear anything wrong, Chris had radioed back in, still concerned, and we could hear over the radio what he was talking about.

We pulled him in at the end of that lap, around 7am, and jacked the car up to see what was going on. Thinking that maybe the manifold had cracked the undertray was removed and the manifold was inspected, before realising that it was not the manifold but the engine mounts that had both failed. The crew went into overdrive after all being handed a red bull, and got the spare engine mounts while Harris and Milltek Sport, MD, Steve Pound spent the next hour under the car, eventually managing to repair the damage.

Werner then completed a third stint, with his lap times vastly improving on that from his previous stint. At 10:50am, Tranchet had been back in the car for less than 5 minutes before the steering wheel dropped into his lap again. A result of using the already damaged mounts to move his chair forward at the start of his stint and weakening the repair work Harris had carried out earlier. The GT86 was pulled in once again and it was time to decide if we would retire or if we had the driver capacity to carry on.

Determined, Dominic, Chadwick and Moritz all threw their hands up to carry on, so Harris jumped back under the steering wheel and carried a second repair. With Chris Chadwick and Dominic Tranchet completing stints after the 11am pit stop we had 1 hour to go before the Audi R8 LMS was due to finish.

Moritz took on the last leg, pushing the car to its limits to try and make up some time between him and the GT86 a few laps ahead of us, and at 3:30pm drove the grey and green, tape covered, spoiler-less machine over the finish line in 4th place.

Everyone was tired, dirty and physically worn out from the intense 24 hours prior to the chequered flag. It was one of, if not the toughest endurance race, we have ever been a part of.

It was hard not to be disappointed in the result, but equally as hard not to be incredibly proud of what we had accomplished. Our four drivers were able to bring the car home in some of the most difficult situations, while also pushing harder than ever before, managing to beat our 2018 lap record.
Our incredible pit crew had worked through 13 stops with no sleep, upside down, lying down, and on their sides to make sure that we were able to see the 24 hours through to the end. We had gone through all the cable ties, all the tape and all the red bulls. But we did it, we completed the ADAC TOTAL 24-hour race. An incredible accomplishment given the damage we had seen at lap 20. After being hit by a GT3 at pace, we completed an astonishing 96 laps of the Nordschleife and saw the black and white flag waved at us, finishing 4th place in class.

Active Sound is Back and Better than Ever!

Active Sound Version 2 widens the ability to give your car more character than ever before, offering everything the original version did plus a whole lot more. V2 has an increased selection of sound files and a wider range of configurable settings, making it the only platform to give you complete control over the sound of your vehicle.

The product developed by Milltek Sport, simulates a variety of different tones exiting through the outlet of your vehicle using cutting-edge carbon fibre speaker technology. The speaker is housed within a motorsport grade stainless-steel housing and links directly in to the vehicles network so that you can use “plug-and-play” technology to create a direct, algorithmically calculated relationship between road speed, throttle position and engine speed to generate a range of hyper-realistic exhaust tones.

Like V1, the new system can also be controlled from the free ‘Milltek Sport Active Sound Control’ app installed on your smartphone, allowing you to adjust the characteristics of your exhaust sound on the go. V2 features 8 pre-set selectable sound files as well as the ability to lay a “pop/crackle” feature to further enhance the tone. We have also including “A Mode” which gives a more realistic sound match to the sound of a combustion engine.

The 8 selectable sound files include true matches to Milltek Sport exhaust systems ranging from 5 cylinder, V8’s to V10s, that our Research & Development team have spent time perfecting and are proud to now be able to share with vehicles that otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience the same tones. For example, the Milltek Sport, Diesel T6 now features the same tone our development team have previously been able to generate on iconic vehicles like the 5 cylinder Audi’s, making our show trips all that much better!

A brand new addition to V2 is the “pop/crackle” feature, which the Active Sound Development team worked tirelessly on so that when you take your foot off the throttle in your active sound equipped vehicle, you can experience the same excitement that comes to so many of our performance exhaust customers with the rawest and probably the most exciting sound an exhaust can make. As the single unit is wired in direct to the vehicles CAN BUS (electronic control network) there is no need to control when the pop/crackle happens, it is it tuned so that the timing is as realistic as any other performance exhaust.

This leads us in to “A Mode” which allows for the more hyper realistic response to the throttle. It symphonizes the sound to match that of a combustion engine when moving through the rev range as well as when you come off the throttle, meaning that you can hear as much of the exhaust note changes as you would with any of our other performance sport exhausts. “A Mode” doesn’t quieten down after you come off the throttle, and instead will cut the sound to imitate what happens when you come off the throttle in a performance tuned vehicle.

This all new unit is retrofittable for a variety of vehicles such as diesels, electrics and newer vehicles with GPF systems that have components designed to dampen out the sound of the exhaust, while Installation has also been simplified from V1 by the sound generator and Bluetooth receiver being combined into one, simpler, unit, making it easier and quicker for you to enjoy the experience that your car may never have been to provide for you before otherwise.

Milltek Sport Welcomes A New Addition to the Fleet

Here at Milltek Sport, we are proud to announce the new addition to our range of fleet vehicles, one of the hottest and bespoke hatches in today’s market, the latest Mercedes A35 AMG.

The newer model was released back in 2018 and made its debut at the Paris Motor Show and it certainly had quite the impression, leaving people amazed by the technology this A35 featured. The car allows you to change its characteristics to match your style, even for aesthetic features such as the dashboard display style and interior ambient lighting.

Although the technology the newer A35 possesses is more impressive to its predecessors, that doesn’t mean that the performance has gone unnoticed. The car has been completely re-designed from the ground up says its design team.

The design of the latest A35 has been developed to enhance the car’s performance in a variety of ways. The new aerodynamics of the vehicle further improving the car’s top speed and handling. The front of the car has been designed to be more compact to improve the car’s stiffness for better cornering. The A35 possesses a 2.0 litre, four-cylinder engine that is equipped with a twin-scroll turbo. Along with a seven-speed DCT twin-clutch box, the car reaches 0-60mph in just 4.7 seconds, boasting just over 300bhp! We are very excited to experience the latest A35 offering from Mercedes-Benz and are proud to add this hot-hatch to the Milltek fleet.

The addition of the new A35 AMG to the Milltek Fleet has allowed our R&D Engineers to develop a range of quality Milltek Sport exhaust systems to the A35. So far, our engineers have developed the following systems:

Cat-Back GPF/OPF Delete System – Cat-Back system which removes the GPF/OPF component to reduce gas-flow restrictions.

GPF/OPF-Back System – Cat-Back system that accommodates the vehicles GPF/OPF pat, creating a GPF/OPF-Back system that is designed compensate for the additional restrictions on gas-flow caused by the GPF/OPF to ensure quality sound aesthetics.

GPF/OPF Bypass Pipe – The purpose of this product is to specifically remove the GPF/OPF from the system to create a freer-flowing OEM exhaust system.

These products have been designed to provide lucky owners of the A35, a variety of performance options to improve both power and sound. Letting owners be able to add the Milltek Performance to their performance hatchbacks.

These are just some of the Milltek Sport exhaust systems that we will be offering for the A35. Our development team are planning on utilising the new Milltek A35 to design and develop more Milltek Sport products for the A35 so make sure to stay tuned to discover more exciting Milltek products for this hot-hatch.

The A35 comes equipped with a Gasoline-Particulate-Filter (GPF). Since vehicles have started to be manufactured with GPFs, this has created new challenges for aftermarket exhaust manufacturers, having to accommodate this part. Thankfully though, our R&D engineers are already well experienced with designing systems that cater for GPF/OPF exhausts.

The addition of the A35 to the Milltek Fleet has been greatly beneficial to the Milltek R&D team. Having another fleet vehicle equipped with a GPF/OPF available will further our knowledge about the component, understanding its properties and be able to provide more accommodating products that reduce the limitations caused by GPF/OPF.

We are planning on exhibiting the new Milltek A35 AMG Fleet Vehicle at many upcoming events we are attending throughout the year, so be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook Page to learn when and where you can come meet the Milltek A35 in person, discovering what makes it so special.

Milltek Sport A35 AMG exhaust systems are available for PRE-ORDER NOW!

Visit our website’s Dealer Page to locate your nearest Milltek Sport dealer to contact and place your order. Milltek Sport exhaust products for the A35 will be released in June 2019.

Milltek at European Experience in Savannah

This past weekend the Milltek Sport team attended and exhibited at SOWO’s event hosted in Savannah GA, USA, the European Experience 2019.

The event isn’t just a car show. It truly is an experience that introduced an eccentric atmosphere of car enthusiasts to Savannah. With all sorts of European vehicles from modified Audi Wagons to Lamborghinis, there was something for everyone in attendance.
Located on the “Pit Lane of Pain” at the Grand Prize of America Avenue Track, the event consisted of beach days, camping, competitions and plenty of modified cars to ogle over, including the Milltek Sport equipped RS3 and S4 that were bought to life on plenty of occasions over the weekend. We were also displaying an array of popular systems on our stand, alongside the infamous Milltek Sport – Zircotec blue downpipe.

The event was a perfect opportunity for us to meet a portion of our states based customers; and being able to share their enthusiasm for our performance exhaust systems was nothing short of an honour. Albeit still recovering from the heat, the show is one that we are incredibly proud to have been a part of and are very much looking forward to ramping it up a level next year.
We asked our attending staff what their highlights of the show were:

Brit Wagstaff, Senior Marketing Executive – “My highlight of the show was when an attendee told me his story of how he fell in love with his Milltek Exhaust and took me to see the car along with the Milltek Sport stickers he had added to it at the show!!”

Steve Pound, Managing Director – “My most memorable experience from the show was seeing someone come with a massive smile on his face to tell us he had bought his MK4 R32 Golf with a Milltek Exhaust on it and asked if he could park it on our stand to show off, which of course we were pleased to be able to do.”

Tom Onslow-Cole, Milltek Brand Ambassador – “My highlight from the show was hearing how grateful people were for us making the trip out there to be able to speak to our customers in person and experience the event and all the excitement alongside them.”

We would like to thank all at SOWO Partners for organising and hosting the European Experience – See You Next Year!

Milltek Sport Unveils New Cat-Back Exhaust For Audi R8 Plus (Spyder and Coupe)

It’s not difficult to imagine that a 5.2 V10 that’s frankly dripping in flamboyant Lamborghini and Audi supercar technology already sounds pretty damn good from the factory, but it can be made better… thanks to Milltek. If you truly seek a supercar exhaust note that stirs you from your very loins, then it’s not difficult to see why Milltek Sport have decided to add a much more of the Lamborghini flair to proceedings. Let’s face it, everyone wants a car to sound like a Lambo? So why not awaken the beast within the latest R8 Plus models, let them breathe that little bit easier, and pretend that it’s from Sant’Agata instead of Ingolstadt.

The latest version of Audi's premier supercar, the R8 V10, remains one of the most capable performance cars on sale today. Immense, 535hp levels of performance are paired with classic, sure-footed Quattro handling, all wrapped up in a typically refined and understated body. It's a compelling mix and one that's enabled the R8 V10 to find countless thousands of homes, but there's always room for improvement – hence the expansion of the Milltek range to accommodate it. Rather than re-invent the wheel though, Milltek has simply gone in pursuit of the R8s slightly more extravagant cousin, the Gallardo LP560-4. After all, if you’re going to own a supercar, why not have the loudest one?

Milltek's latest exhaust offering for the R8 can be specified in the firm's customary, open-ended manner, giving buyers the freedom to design the system best suited to their requirements. It begins with a choice of core systems, with cat back race and supercup options available, or for the latest Plus Coupe and Spyder you have the option to retain the Audi drive plus system that incorporates electronic valves within the silencer to alter the exhaust note via the HUD and onboard computer.

While still completely legal to use on the UK's road network, the electronic valves allow you to have the best of both world’s, a mellow cruiser when you require a long haul motorway journey, or a very in your face Lambo-eque V10 wail when the mood grabs a hold. Consisting of left and right hand back connecting pipes, and a rear silencer assembly with HollowTek Technology (one which re-purposes the OE electronic valves), electronic valve motors, wiring adaptors, a pair of trim connecting pipes, and the large bore oval twin tail pipe option

Obviously the Audi R8 is a highly desirable, wonderfully designed and manufactured car, one that demands that any aftermarket product bolted to it be at least as well engineered as the OE equivalent, and the Milltek SuperSport exhaust more than delivers in this respect. Not only is it made from high grade stainless steel and to exhaustive standards, the Milltek silencer reduction system has been proven to offer subtle increases in both power and torque, plus a soundtrack that really does need to be heard to be fully appreciated!

Constantly striving to build the best exhaust systems technically possible has resulted in a number of Milltek firsts and breakthroughs, with one of the most notable being their HollowTek manufacturing technique. This involves the careful placement of shaped silencer casings, reflection plates and varying lengths of solid and perforated internal tubing, all designed to create special chambers within the silencer itself that cancel out resonant frequencies and drone while driving at speed.

HollowTek ensures that no additional under-hang is visible beneath the system, reduces overall weight, permits the use of smaller boxes, results in a deeper sound, and enhances the pops and crackles that characterise the over-run sound of vehicles fitted with electronic exhaust valve control modules.

Milltek Sport Unveils New GPF-Back Exhaust For Ford Fiesta ST MK8 1.5L EcoBoost 200PS

Exhaust tuning is critical on the Ford, due to the newly developed 1.5 litre engine and the relatively small size of the turbocharger that is designed to deliver its power with minimal lag. With these two factors playing a major part in the design process, our engineers were keen to lower gas temperatures and optimise back-pressure without inducing the ‘rasp’ that so easily occurs when tuning low displacement engines.

All GPF/cat-back systems come with the choice of 90mm polished, cerakote black, titanium, burnt titanium or carbon trims.
Our GPF/cat-back offers a valved system that works directly with factory electronics and features an all new direct drive valve setup to prevent unwanted noise or vibration from the exhaust valve.

For ultimate valve control we will be releasing a smartphone application valve control system. This will offer permanent valve shut, opening of the valve at specific RPM or permanent opening off the valve through all driver select modes.

We will also be offering non-valved GPF/cat-back systems with valve delete module for those owners wanting a noisier and more aggressive soundtrack all the time without constantly adjusting driver select modes after startup. Our non-valved GPF/cat-back will solve this for you!

In development and coming soon will be a full range of large bore downpipes available with and without High Flow Cat/GPF's.
Contact your local authorised Milltek Sport dealer to place your pre-orders here

Milltek Sport Unveils New Cat-Back Exhaust For Audi RS3 Saloon (8V MQB) With Multiple Configurations

We reckon we're on safe ground when we say that the re-emergence of the small, hatchback-derived saloon has been one of the more unexpected automotive industry developments of recent years, and much of the credit for the re-popularisation of the booted hatch sector can be laid squarely at the feet, or rather the wheels, of the RS3 saloon. Those fortunate enough to own an example of the booted RS3 8V MQB will no doubt be glad to learn that the model has just been added to the Milltek Sport range of performance exhaust systems.

The latest version of Audi's premier hot hatch, the 8V RS3, remains one of the most capable performance cars on sale today. Immense, near 400bhp levels of performance are paired with classic, sure-footed Quattro handling, all wrapped up in a typically refined and understated body. It's a compelling mix and one that's enabled the RS3 to find countless thousands of homes, but there's always room for improvement – hence the expansion of the Milltek range to accommodate it.

Milltek's latest exhaust offering for the 8V generation can be specified in the firm's customary, open-ended manner, giving buyers the freedom design the system best suited to their requirements. It begins with a choice of core systems, either a large-bore downpipe and de-cat (a product intended for the race/track market), or a large bore downpipe and high-flow sports cat. Milltek also offers a further option, one aimed at those buyers seeking to enhance both the sound and performance of their RS3, a secondary catalyst bypass. It fits both OE and Milltek cat-back systems.

The Milltek Sport range opens with a duo of non-resonated cat-back options. While still completely legal to use on the UK's road network, non-resonated systems will be significantly louder than those mentioned below, able to emit a suitably aggressive exhaust note. Both options consist of a front silencer bypass, a rear silencer with HollowTek Technology (one which re-purposes the OE electronic valves), electronic valve motors, wiring adaptors, a pair of trim connecting pipes, and a choice of oval twin tail pipe options; Cerakote black or polished.

Those RS3 owners seeking a quieter, less raucous exhaust note would be well advised to consider Milltek Sport's other cat-back options, both of which are resonated. Again, the two options consist of beautifully designed and manufactured exhaust components, namely a front silencer assembly, a rear silencer with HollowTek Technology (one which re-purposes the OE electronic valves), electronic valve motors, wiring adaptors, a pair of trim connecting pipes, and the tail pipe options outlined above.

Obviously the Audi RS3 is a highly desirable, wonderfully designed and manufactured car, one that demands that any aftermarket product bolted to it be at least as well engineered as the OE equivalent, and the Milltek Sport cat-back exhaust more than delivers in this respect. Not only is it made from high grade steel and to exhaustive standards, the Milltek silencer delete system has been proven to offer subtle increases in both power and torque, plus a soundtrack that really does need to be witnessed to be fully appreciated!

Milltek Sport Expands Range Of Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems To Include VW Amarok 3.0 V6 TDI (204 & 224PS)

The VW Amarok caused quite the stir when it was released upon an unsuspecting public 8 years ago, not least as it was (and in fact remains) comfortably the largest European pickup truck on sale. Its massive size was paired with immense capability though, so it really isn't that surprising that the vast VW has founds homes across the UK, with many owners seeking to stamp their own personality onto their trucks – hence why Milltek Sport has just added it to their ever expanding range, one designed for the 3.0 V6 TDI variant.

Milltek's Amarok range is based around a classic cat-back configuration, an arrangement that effectively opens the door to a slew of exhaust options. The cat-back then leads to a 70mm centre connecting pipe, a rear connecting point, before running to a twin tip assembly (with an optional Black Velvet tip). The exhaust terminates with a twin 80mm special oval tail pipe design, one which oozes subtle aggression and is wholly in keeping with the Amarok itself.

It wouldn't be a Milltek Sport system without a nod to technological progress, and this is very much in evidence on its Amarok offering. The most obvious example of this can be seen in the optional Active Sound Control module, a system which gives the driver total control over the volume and tone emitted by their exhaust. The hardware which makes up the Active Sound Control module includes an Active Sound Universal Outlet pipe, Active Sound Generator with universal mounting bracket and an Active Sound Controller, loom and ECU.

The Milltek system's construction credentials are beyond reproach, but so too is its performance potential. Extensive dyno testing of Milltek's own demo car has shown notable power gains, not to mention hikes in torque throughout the rev range, and all achieved without in any way detracting from the Amarok's innate character. The system's note, a dramatic, aggressive burble, has been honed in such a way that it complement's the pickup's rough, tough, go-anywhere nature, making it well suited to commutes, B-road blasts and the school run.

Milltek hardware isn't just proven to enhance performance, it's all designed and manufactured in the UK, traits that help ensure the firm's reputation for excellence is maintained. Not only that, all the firm's exhausts are produced from high quality type-304 aircraft grade stainless steel, a material that's both anti-magnetic and less prone to discoloration than offerings from rivals. Mandrel bending ensures optimised gas flow characteristics across the whole of the range, while the company's impressive portfolio of feature and development cars (and the fact that they conduct so much development mileage) speaks volumes about both the quality of their products and the commitment of its employees.

First drive: Milltek Golf GTI

Oh great, someone's been tampering with a Golf GTI.Yes, the Golf GTI is such a respected all-rounder now that tampering with it seems almost indecent. It's as if Laura Ashley had started selling bondage gear. However, since VW itself isn't above adding extra power to the platform (see our recent drive of the new Golf R) maybe we should cut Milltek some slack. After all, the gains they've got from the 4cyl 2.0-litre turbo are, well, remarkable.
