Milltek Motorsport Catalytic Converters
From 2009, exhaust catalytic converters must be fitted to all petrol-engined production based saloon, touring and sports cars, including specialist production and kit cars manufactured after 31/12/99. They may also be specified for certain other formulae. Competitors are reminded of their obligation to maintain such equipment on a vehicle used on the highway where government legislation requires it. Milltek has extensive experience in providing catalyst and exhaust solutions and can help your team to comply with the rules and ensure that your race car maintains the maximum performance possible.
Milltek Motorsport uses only the finest quality FIA-Approved HJS high-performance catalysts. This new generation of catalysts are characterized by 30% less weight in relation to catalysts built using existing materials and techniques. Backpressure has been reduced by a further 10%, and the exhaust gas pollution reduction is optimised. The thickness of the foil (0,11mm) remains unchanged but is now of a PE Foil design which uses perforations to reduce weight and increase flow. Although the products may be new, they have been extensively tested and shown to offer the same high-levels of durability and reliability of existing products.

HJS offers a universal non-regulated catalytic converter system for motor sport. For the different cubic capacity classes of racing cars, a corresponding catalytic converter with a specifically adapted catalytic converter volume has been created. Experience in the most demanding racing series like DTM, STW, DTC, Formula 3 and the rally world Championship show that there is no significant loss of engine performance by using the HJS high performance catalytic converter system.
Race & Rally cars
Following the report issued by the Bavarian Technical Inspectorate (TÜV Bayern), our catalytic converter system 1054 may be registered for all vehicles that are licensed without a catalytic converter. Similarly, this report allows the registration of catalytic converters of other cubic capacity classes.
Technical Information
The maximum cubic capacity is relevant when choosing the right catalytic converter. In certain circumstances, it may be preferential to use a catalytic converter from the next highest cubic capacity class. Within a cubic capacity class, it is possible to choose between different exhaust pipe diameters. All Motorsport catalysts come with unequal length cones to optimise gas flow, they have a single lambda boss on the inlet cone, a secondary lambda boss can be fitted on request. Each catalyst is supplied with heat insulation material for protecting your floorpan.

Engine output not Affected
Testing by TÜV Bayern, in addition to other testing, have shown that HJS high performance catalytic converters do not produce any loss of engine performance (measurements according to DIN 70020) and keep within the exhaust gas regulations.
Technical excellence
The use of metal supports within 100 cells per square inch (cpsi: see picture above) and the excellent design of the cones keeps back pressure to a minimum, avoiding a reduction of engine performance. The optimum supports guarantee long duration of life. The intermediate layer (wash-coat) is resistant to high temperatures and guarantees high stability that is essential in motorsport.
Volkswagen Racing Sponsor
Milltek Sport have been active sponsors of the VW Racing Cup since 2004 and have been a UK Business Partner for HJS Motorsport since 2003. Motorsport catalysts are all 100 cells per square inch (CPSI) rated with special SM winding for maximum durability and have an outstanding heat rating of 1150oC. These catalysts have been tested to produce up to 28% less backpressure than competitors products.
